Mr. Fish: “Laid off” from the University of Pennsylvania!

Many of us know the work of Mr. Fish, a pull-no-punches writer and artist. His critical commentary about social justice, climate collapse, and genocide has led to right wing death threats against him, his family, his students, colleagues and friends. Despite this, week after week he continues to provide cartoons, texts, and art supporting activists such as Roger Hallam and Chris Hedges. While some contrarian artists have begun the process of seeking citizenship opportunities outside the United States, Mr. Fish plans to remain; resisting and inspiring as long as possible unless silenced by poverty, imprisonment, or worse.

Financially, his situation has worsened. On March 19th Mr. Fish was “laid off” from the University of Pennsylvania. The news was delivered by email, not a phone call or an in-person campus meeting, even though he has taught at the Annenberg School for Communication for eleven years. Mr. Fish cannot continue to create the art we need without our help. Not all of us can engage in direct actions, and some have only limited time to devote to organizing.  But we can all find a way to donate a few dollars each month to support an artist with a proven commitment of criticizing the elites who demand our collective acquiescence to their totalitarian agendas.

Censorship is increasing, big law firms and big academia are rolling over with barely a whimper. Time to stand up for the little guy, someone independent.  We need artists who don’t pull punches, creators who remain committed despite retaliation and threats.
